 10 Unbelievable facts about clownfish

1. They are included in the "Great Eight" of the Great Barrier Reef, a special group of flame beams, giant cod, potato cod, Maori raccoons, sharks, turtles, whales and ... only powerful clown fish. They are up against some of the heavier weights in the marine life category, but they are only as small as fish.

2. Female clownfish sex These species are predominant and are actually larger than males. When there are more than two clown fish in the anemone, the big one is the female, the second one is the big one and the rest are usually males that do not work.

3. Clownfish A Hermaphrodite Hermaphrodite - When a female clown dies, the male transforms his sex into a female and remains a female for life.

4. Clownfish are aggressively spatial with their animones and coexist with it. They protect their home from being bitten by fish that the Anemone Empire likes to eat. Anemone venom protects clown fish from their carnivores, and clownfish are protected from anemone stings by their mucus.

5. Clownfish like to work a little. Before laying the female eggs they carefully clear a spot near the base of the anemone (as it is more protected).

6. Like penguins, the male clown takes care of fertilized eggs. They spend their time stirring the eggs slowly, making sure everyone has enough oxygen.

7. After the eggs hatch, the chick is washed away with the moss until the clown finds their own anemone to care for them.


8. You can go year round to see clown fish - the best places to see them are Magnetic Island, Lady Musgrave Island, Green Island, Witsunde Island and the dunes around Heron Island.

9. Clownfish cannot survive without their host anemone, and young clownfish are hard to find. Often they follow an existing hierarchy and have to find someone else for shelter.

10. Of the current 1000 anemone species, only 10 are suitable for clowns - so it is imperative that we all help protect these amazing animals and plants in the sea. These include participating in eco-friendly travel experiences, reducing single-use plastic, becoming Reef's eyes and ears by downloading the IE in the Reef app, and enhancing your knowledge by connecting with Great Barrier Reef citizens
